IREK Working Paper No. 1
Mapping of Solar PV and Wind Energy Markets in Kenya: Current State and Emerging Trends
Increasing the generating capacity is a key priority for the energy-related government agencies and regulatory authorities in Kenya. While the current energy system relies mainly on hydro power, the expansion of renewable energy sources, especially wind and solar power, has been given high priority in national policies. However, updated information on the development and diffusion of wind and solar technologies in Kenya is currently lacking.
As a contribution to the analysis of the development of solar and wind-powered mini-grids and large-scale, grid-connected plants in Kenya, this working paper focuses on the current status and trends as well as the role and involvement of European and Chinese actors.
